so let’s get it over and just get naked ! Another night, another shift. That's what it always was, recently. She had just spent four hours serving assholes and trying to convincingly drink all the drinks they bought, even though she only actually swallowed about half and spit the rest out into beer bottles. It was like half the guys there thought that if they got the bartender drunk, she'd either pull herself up onto the counter and start stripping, give them free drinks, or sleep with them. With Max, even if she was drunk, it was very, very rare that any three of those things would ever happen. Of course, if they were cute enough, she might consider a one night stand, but nine times out of ten, she didn't think they were really worth it. After all, no one knew what the guys in here were like, if they were married, what they were carrying around with them underneath all those clothes. Max wasn't about to let some stranger into her apartment for him to rob her after she fell asleep- among other things.
Her Mazda Mx3 was currently off the road; it was a little hard to drive a car that had no gas in its tank, now wasn't it? The buses weren't running as late as her shift, leaving Max with the most known source of transportation. Walking! Max didn't mind walking, it wouldn't kill her, but that didn't mean she was excited about it. Leaving the warmth of the club, Max instantly put the cigarette she had carried out between her lips. Pulling her zippo out, she lit the end of it before putting it away, her free hand stuffing deeply into the pocket of her leather jacket as she started to walk. It was a little chilly out, and even through the jacket, Max could feel the bitter breezes nipping at the skin exposed from the holes in her shirt. Biting back a shiver from escaping her lips, she inhaled the filter of her cigarette, closing her eyes for a moment as she rounded the corner of the building into it's alley. Poor, unfortunate Max.
Two guys had been waiting for drunken idiots to stumble outside so they could mug easy money. When they saw Max, and smelt the alcohol she was carrying with her, they instantly thought she was just as drunk as anyone else walking out of there. After keeping themselves hidden long enough for Max to get down the alley so she was closer to them, they sprung out of no where. Instantly, Max's reflexes kicked in, and her right fist went flying. She hit one of them in the neck blindly, though it wasn't enough to stun him. She was grabbed and thrown against the alley wall, a loud groan of pain sounding as her head cracked against the brick behind her. They tried to pin her, but Max knew exactly where to hit. Lifting her right knee, she sacked the guy who posed the biggest threat, his grip instantly loosening on her to try and hold himself together as he toppled over. With him out of the way, the other cursed loudly under his breath, moving to try and subdue her against the wall.
Since she still had her cigarette clenched between her fingers, Max lifted it quickly, pressing the cherry of it to the guy's neck. He instantly backed off to get away from the heated source, but that left him wide open to punch to the face. Her knuckles cracked against his nose, and she could've sworn she felt something break. Her adrenaline was pumping, and it hadn't occurred to her that the fight had caused quite the commotion. Since her focus had been so distracted, she hadn't seen or heard the outsider wander up the alley to see what had happened. Going by instinct, Max didn't think before she acted. With her left hand, she shoved him against the alley wall, her right hand quickly pulling her knife off her belt loop and flicking the blade out. Resting it tightly against his throat, Max trying to squint through the darkness at him, though the pain in her head was starting to make everything go all... fuzzy.

Xx-- Fall was now upon the earth, its cold air calling out for snow. Kaden was on not to really mind the snow or the cold for that matter, but when he didn’t get ready for it, it was a real pain in his ass. It had been warmer during the day when he had left for work in the late afternoon almost evening and now late at night he could feel the cold air at its worst so far. Muttering softly to himself as he walked down the dark and slightly creepy for a normal person streets. Only he was used to the black alley by now after all he had been working in an underground cage fighting bar for some time now. No one would even try jumping him for most people knew who he was by now and two he looked like he could kick ass.
Tonight with his hands pushed into his jacket pockets, a cut on his lower lip, a black eye starting to show it’s true colours. What the hell was Katelyn going to think when she saw this? Katelyn also known as Danielle was an undercover FIB girl who seemed to be someone he’d been interested in. They had been hanging out a lot since their first run in which lead to a lovely events of bad luck. She was going to be pissed and once again try and tell Kaden to quit. Only to Kaden this wasn’t just a job for him that made a lot of cash, it was an outlet. An outlet to make the pass go away. After the death of his lover, wife and soul mate was still hard on him. Since meeting Katelyn it was getting easier but he wasn’t about to get up and quit his job. It was fun for him as well.
By this point in this thoughts Kaden was away from the black alley market and moving down the streets of Switchblade. He never parked his car near work. He wasn’t stupid. A fine piece of work like his car would be a huge flashing like. BREAK INTO ME, LOOK WHO GOD CASH, STEAL ME. . . . so one and so forth. It was a pain sometimes but it got him outside and it really was a nice walk after getting out of the shithole he worked at.
Only has he made down his work he could hear something that was not very out of place in a town like this. A city full of crime and bad people. A fight going on nearby. He could only wonder what it was about, only as he listened more closely he heard a female cry. “Shit fucking bitches.” He muttered about how he would now have to go kick someone’s ass again. Well he could easily just walk away but that would drive him insane. Knowing that he could have saved a woman from something more than one man was most likely going to do to her.
Letting his hands fall from his pockets he broke into a run listening to the sound of a fight. From what he could tell she wasn’t that bad or she had another guy with her who was putting up a fight. Kaden was closer, he whipped around the corner and spotted Max, an old friend that he had known for a very long time. She could easily hold her own, but clearly this eyes were putting up a good fight. He may as well help the woman. So he went rushing in just about to pull the guy off Max when she spun around and pinned him. . . .this was not good.
Feeling the cool blade on his neck his eyes went side his hands in the air as he almost yelped. “Max! Fucking shit! Don’t you dare fucking cut me. Last time I come rushing to help your ass.” He said getting slightly calmer as he spoke. He knew Max would easily be able to tell who he was just from his voice. Then again she worked in a bar, she could be very well drunk for what he knew. “Max?”

so let’s get it over and just get naked ! This wasn't, at all, expected. Max hadn't ever really been confronted with a crime before since she had moved to Swichblade. Of course, she heard about it, or caught it on the news when she was flipping through channels, but nothing really serious had caught her interest enough to look further into the news or story being told. It was one of those things that you always thought couldn't happen to you, even though it was more than obvious that a girl with a temper like Max that she wasn't invincible. Her mind was still getting over the fact that she had just walked into this, not expecting any of it to go down the way it had. It hadn't occurred to her that someone else around would've heard the scuffle at all, so any thoughts of someone coming to try and take the role as her savior never actually surfaced in her head. The first thing she could think of when she heard the extra pair of boots was that he was another one of the thugs, either late to the crime or to be back up support. And, naturally, Max wasn't about to let some idiot walk up to her and steal her wallet - or try and do anything else.
So when she had forced him against the wall, switchblade to his throat, she hadn't expected to hear her name. It surprised her more than the fact that this had happened, period. At first she thought it might have been someone from Pulse, some moron that she had told her name to just to get him off her back, but that wasn't it. His voice was familiar; too familiar to be a stranger she couldn't care less about. It took her a few moments, not letting up from his neck, to get her mind to start working again. Her adrenaline had completely taken over, and since it had left her breathless, she was trying to focus on breathing and who he was all at the same time. Eventually, she blinked, her lips parting in disbelief. "... Kaden?" Instantly, she pulled her hands away from him, holding them up like he had, making sure he knew she wasn't a threat to him anymore. "Jesus Christ! Are you on medication!? I was gunna stab you, you fucking moron!" Looking around, flustered, she put the knife away and turned her attention back on him. With a grief sigh, she tried to calm herself down, pushing her hand into her hairline for a moment as she looked towards one of the thugs that had fallen unconscious.
"I haven't seen you in... god, I don't even remember." Ignoring their surroundings, Max looked at him through narrowed eyes, trying to think back all those years to when they had been together. Not together-together. Just friends. With a lot of complication. A small smile pulled at the corner of her mouth, and she looked down almost sheepishly. "Sorry. About the knife-point. Working around drunken idiots all the time isn't the safest employment around here." Tucking some loose strands of hair behind her ear, Max inhaled deeply through her nose, avoiding eye contact. Before she could even realize what she was doing, she stepped forward, her hands landing on the sides of his face. Her lips pressed against his in a small kiss, lips lingering just long enough to show emotion before she broke it with a startled curse underneath her breath. Pulling a face, mainly because she didn't exactly feel the smartest after doing that, Max looked away completely and rolled her eyes. Yeah, that was the perfect greeting to someone who you haven't seen in ages, to someone you haven't spoken to in over a year. Turning back towards him, she took a few steps back, trying not to seem nervous or awkward, but it was a little more than obvious. Not that Max could help it; Kaden had seen her through her worst and best times. There was little to hide from him.
"Sorry... nerves make me get weird."

Xx-- It sure took her long enough to really react. It Was like her mind was working slowly, building up and Kaden waited and didn’t move. Not that he really had a choice, if he moved even slightly he knew Max would cut him quickly. She bitch him out and act as if he really was one of the bad guys. So slowly breathing his head cocked slightly upright trying to keep the blade from cutting him. After this it really would look like he gotten his ass handed to him. When she did finally say his name he spoke. “Yes Max, thank you for taking you sharp death tool away from my neck.” He said before brushing himself off. Well that could have been bad, what would have Katelyn said to that?
Chuckling more to himself it reminded him of the times when he had a gun. Her hands in the air as if he was holding her at point. He had done that a lot, well not to her but other people who had done wrong things. Yet she was freaking out as he calmly stood there. Same old Max, smirking at her he leaned back on the wall again well pushing his hands into his pockets. “Yeah I think I noticed you almost stabbed me. Maybe you should fight with your eyes open?” He said teasing her well finally peeking around her to see the two goons on the ground out cold. She was still freaking out so Kaden straighten and waited for her to get it out of her system.
It took her a minute but once it was out of her, it seemed like things had gotten slightly normal. “I believe it’s been a few years, what made you move back here?” He asked not knowing she was back in town after all once they had their odd break up of not dating people they stopped talking all together. It was great to see her again. “Not a problem, not like I-“ He didn’t get to finish what he was saying as her lips pressed to his. Normally Kaden would have pulled her in closer, deepened the kiss but the shock of it happening and the flicker of Katelyn he just stared at her as she pulled away awkwardly.
“That’s a first” He muttered to himself bitterly already missing her that way despite the time apart and his deep interest in another woman. Rubbing the back of his neck as he kicked at the ground when she finally spoke he glazed back up at her his hand not leaving the back of his next. “I know.” He said softly taking in a deep breath that brought on a long awkward silence. It was then that a groan came from behind Max and Kaden quickly spotted him rolling over onto his back.
Kaden walked pass Max and kicked into the man’s side before quickly moving to dig his heel into the man’s gut. He yelled his eyes flying open before Kaden placed his foot on the man’s head and looked back at Max with a small smile. The man under him was out cold again but Kaden couldn’t help but feel slightly cocky. “So don’t have a phone anymore?” He asked trying to break their awkwardness. Good going Max, was all he could think.

so let’s get it over and just get naked ! "You try working with neon lights for the majority of your week and then walk outside and try and identify someone popping out of no where after being attacked. I bet you twenty fucking dollars that you'd do the same thing. Jerk." She didn't want to feel guilty about slamming Kaden up against the wall, knife pressed to his throat, but she kind of did. It had been a while since she had had to use her knife, so that all in itself had taken her by surprise. But then Kaden showing up out of no where? She had to actually rule out the idea that one of her drinks had gotten drugged, and she was hallucinating this entire thing. Things like this didn't happen to Max- ex-ghosts weren't coughed back up from her past out of no where. With a huff, she tried to get rid of the thoughts altogether. It was, currently, ruining her buzz and giving her a headache.
When Max had kissed him, she had expected to feel him kiss her back. She expected him to treat her like how he used to. But when she didn't feel the familiarity in his lips, she instantly knew something was wrong and backed down. The only reason why it had gotten awkward was because Max didn't understand why he hadn't kissed her back. She didn't know what to do, how to feel. Was Kaden not interested anymore? Girlfriend? Wife? For the second time tonight, she felt lost and completely unaware of what was going on. Out of habit, she reached into the ass pocket of her jeans and pulled out her cigarette case. Pulling one from it's container, she lit it before stuffing things away, quick to hide her free hand back into her leather jacket pocket, raising her opposite hand to pull a drag off the filter. Max kept quiet as he walked past her, turning to watch as he finished dealing with one of the unsuccessful thieves. Exhaling her second-hand smoke as he glanced back over at her, she rolled her eyes at his question.
"It's not like that," Walking towards him, she looked down at both of the males, frowning softly. "I didn't think you'd still be here. I mean, the place is a shit hole, as these two just poorly tried to demonstrate." Shaking her head, she took another inhale off the cigarette, closing her eyes as she collected her thoughts. When she thought she had gathered everything, and made sure to hide the fact that she was still a little uncomfortable from him not responding like he normally used to, she opened her eyes and looked back up at him. "Look, it's cold, I'm utterly pissed that they killed my buzz, and we need to catch up. My apartment's too far, and the club isn't closed yet. Drinks, on me?" Nodding her head towards the building, she started to walk, knowing Kaden would be following. As they walked into the entrance, she looked at him over her shoulder, flicking her smoke.
"And to answer your question, about what made me move back here?" Narrowing her eyes, she gave a tight sarcastic smile. "I missed the shit hole."

Xx-- Chucking softly Kaden ran his fingers into his hair before gripping it tightly. She had a point but damn Kaden fights with his eyes open and notices things. She was slacking. “Maybe I should give you a few lesson again on how to see what you’re doing and not just do what you just did. If I was a cop you would have been fucked man.” Trying to joke around with a woman before him. Max was the only other girl that he had ‘dated’ since well his wife’s death or really ever. It was a surprise to see her here for that matter. At first he had just been going to save some woman’s ass out of the kindness of his lame heart but it ended up being a woman that left him.
Kaden couldn’t even really remember what happened, but they fell apart and well here they were now. Totally awkward and there was a small part of him that really missed her now that he was seeing her. After they went they separate ways after some time Kaden had forgotten Max and moved on. She was always a great friend but he didn’t overly think about her like he did with his wife. Even now he was still bring her back up in his mind.
When Max kissed him it seemed that Max still missed him. Everything about them, Kaden could have thought he loved Max at a time, she was something totally different from what his wife had been, she made him forgot his wife and move on. She helped him through so much and yet when she kissed him he couldn’t kiss her back. No matter how much his mind told him he should. That he should put them back together, but he thought of Katelyn. He had moved on from Max and was trying something different again. He was not about to leave Katelyn in the dust, all in interest in her for a woman that was a part of his past. Nothing but a friend now.
Rubbing the back of his neck slightly he gave her a small grin, trying to move pass the awkwardness. It was really odd here. How long had they not seen each other? Years. Max’s why of getting out of the awkwardness was to pull out one of those stupid smokes. “Still trying to kill yourself I see.” He muttered almost bitterly. Kaden hated smoke, almost as much as he hated drugs. It was something that just seemed together and he couldn’t help but take in a deep breath just to make sure she wasn’t being overly stupid. Lucky for him it was just your normal everyday smoke. After that he dealt with the last few things that Max hadn’t been able to knock out and happy and smally gave her a smile. It was nice to see her again. He was surprised and happy at the same time, but sad and almost mad with himself for wanting to leave his interest behind in the dust for this woman who would most likely just leave him again.
Shaking his head he stepped off the back of the now totally out cold body and pushed his hands deep into his pockets. She didn’t think he’d still be here? Pff why would he leave? There was nowhere else to go and besides. . . .he couldn’t bring himself to leave this shit hole. He wondered if she knew he was a part of the shit hole now. He had really gone downhill after his wife’s death and well after Max left him. “You really want to go by to those shitty drunk people? I have drinks at my place my car is just around the corner. . . .unless you’re no comfortable with going to my place. . . .then I guess we can go to the bar.” He said kicking slightly at the ground as he started to walk away from the alleyway and back into the bright light. Why she came back is why he was still here. Once in Switchblade there is not leaving it. No matter how much you hate the place. It cursed with something incurable.
